Manolis Pasparakis is Professor at the Institute for Genetics and the CECAD Research Center at the University of Cologne. His research focuses on the mechanisms regulating immune homeostasis, inflammation and cancer. He has contributed to the understanding of the role of TNF and IKK/NF-kB signalling in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses. His research provided evidence that death of epithelial cells triggers chronic inflammation in the intestine and the skin. He is currently interested to understand how regulated cell death pathways, such as apoptosis and necroptosis, may differentially affect immune homeostasis and inflammation.
